Lee Melvin M. Peralta (“Melvin”) is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education and M.S. in Statistics from Michigan State University, a M.A. in Mathematics Education from the City College of New York, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Georgetown University. 

His work examines the sociomaterial, historical, and aesthetic dimensions of mathematics, statistics, and data science education. His dissertation is based on an interdisciplinary course on data and storytelling that he co-designed and co-taught and reflects his commitment toward participatory teaching and research. His individual and collaborative scholarship can be found in The Mathematics Teacher, ZDM, Research in Mathematics Education, TechTrends, and the Harvard Educational Review. 

Before joining NYU, Melvin was a graduate student at Michigan State University, where he was a University Distinguished Fellow and Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Teaching Fellow. Before becoming a graduate student, he was a mathematics teacher in middle and high schools throughout Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.
