Donnie Martin is a sound synthesist, music technologist, and an electronic music composer and performer from Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a B.M. in Violin performance, he pivoted and studied sound design, composition, and post-production for visual media while attending the Institute of Production and Recording in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was also exposed to sound synthesis and electronic music production. Donnie has performed across the Midwest and the Northeast regions with a wide variety of hardware and software mediums, and he continues to strive to create new and organic sonic experiences within the electronic medium. While earning his M.M. degree in Music Technology from NYU, he studied under Paul Geluso, Dafna Naphtali, and Morton Subotnick. His research work primarily focuses on the composition and performance applications of InAir Sound synthesis, and he recently co-authored a paper on the subject with Paul Geluso and Lars Graugaard, which was published in the 2023 AES International Conference on Spatial and Immersive Audio. As the current Electronic Music Synthesis instructor at NYU Steinhardt within the Music Technology Program, Donnie aims to guide students in finding their unique sound by establishing fundamental techniques and sharing the rich, diverse history of the craft.
