Researcher-Organizer

 

Sohini Das (she/her) is a researcher-organizer, PhD student, elementary art teacher in the South Bronx, and organizer for educational justice in New York City. In her capacity as a researcher-organizer with EJ-ROC, she leads research on equitably policy and practice in school communities, developing and evaluating workshops around racial and educational justice in partnership with community organizers, youth, parents, and community members, and summarizing existing research to support grassroots organizing campaigns for school transformation and educational justice. Sohini also supports NYC Liberation Schools with the NYC Coalition for Educational Justice to design, lead, and evaluate commuting workshops for parents, youth, and community groups on commuting organizing, culturally responsive-sustaining education, abolition and an education justice movement, and healing-centered education. Sohini approaches research as a tool to support the development and sustainability of anti-racist, healing, abolitionist educational spaces with and for Black, Indigenous, Latine, and API youth, families, and communities. She is interested in using art and play to in building and organizing for an education for liberation.
