Panagiotis Rekoutis

Adjunct Faculty

Occupational Therapy

I have been working with children and adolescents with different developmental conditions for almost 30 years. My experience spans across 3 continents, having consulted internationally in Geece and India. Helping people with disabilities has been a calling since childhood years. My regular activities involve:

 - Client Care: Through clinical practice with direct treatment and consultation work with several schools and preschools in the New York City area and in Connecticut: working with young children, and teens with a variety of challenges such as gross and fine motor coordination disorders, handwriting difficulties, sensory processing disorder, feeding disorders and/or learning difficulties, autism, cerebral palsy. Through my private practice (ReDiscoverKids, OT PLLC), I help children and their families through school and home based treatment. My everyday practice is deeply embedded in evidence-based standards promoted through scholarly work that includes several publications and presentations nationally and internationally.

- Education: I am Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Occupational Therapy at NYU. For the past 10 years I have been teaching courses on Childhood Development, Pediatric Occupational Therapy, Assessment and Evaluation Methods, BioMedical Ethics and Evidence-Informed Practice. I am actively mentoring therapists in my position as  the Director of Clinical Services at Manhattan Childrens Center.

- Research: My doctoral research project focused on parents’ perceptions of occupational therapists. Additional research projects have focused on the impact of motor activities on students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and on the impact of executive function type of supports on neurotypical teenagers excelling through enormous adversity. I am a member of the Research Committee at the Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans and have been part of the Scholarship Selection Committee at the same Association for the past 18 years.

In recognition of my contributions to the profession, the 2024 Jim Hinojosa Alumni Award and the NBCOT 2021 Clinical Impact Award.
