Communicative Sciences and Disorders

Erin Embry brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare and higher education, with a career grounded in clinical practice, academic administration and executive leadership. As a licensed speech-language pathologist, Dr. Embry holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders. Informed by her dual faculty and senior leadership roles as Chief Operating Officer and Associate Dean of Academic Operations, Innovation and Strategy at NYU Steinhardt, her research explores how organizational silos shape decision-making in higher education. She also examines digital transformation and the role of Virtual Interprofessional Education (VIPE) in addressing global health disparities and strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration. Dr. Embry was recently named a Distinguished Scholar Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in the Speech-Language Academy and received the 2026 NAP Interprofessional Group Recognition Award.

Dr. Embry has led a wide range of program development and strategic initiatives, with a strong focus on building high-quality, scalable educational experiences—spanning in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Throughout her clinical career, she has specialized in serving adults with acquired brain injuries and progressive neurological diseases, delivering care across large urban health systems, rehabilitation centers, telehealth, and private practice. Her work is driven by a commitment to organizational excellence, innovation and health equity—shaped by impactful, hands-on leadership in clinical practice, interprofessional education and organizational strategy.
