Sarah Beth Bailey

Dr. Bailey serves as the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at New York University. In this role, she leads efforts in the areas of academic advising and graduate student support. Before taking on this role, she was the Director of The Newnan Advising Center at the University of Michigan serving 16,000 students and 42 academic advisors in the areas of student success, advisor development, communications and outreach, operations, and new student services and orientation support.

She got her start in student affairs working in Residence Life at Seton Hall University and the University of Maryland - College Park. She then coordinated the First-year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS) Program at Rutgers University and continued to support new students at NYU as Assistant Dean for New Students and Director of Student Success in the College of Arts and Sciences. All of these professional experiences helped her grow her practice and interconnected philosophy of student success, student affairs, and academic affairs.

Dr. Bailey grew up in rural Ohio and is proudly in the first generation of her family to complete a four-year degree. She earned a B.A in History from Saint Mary's College - Notre Dame, IN, an M.A. in Higher Education from Rowan University - Glassboro, NJ, and an Ed.D from Rutgers University - New Brunswick, NJ. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) program in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at NYU.

She is passionate about working with college students and supporting them through the challenges and successes of college life. Her research interests include strategies that support queer students and first-generation college students on college campuses.
