Janet F. Alperstein joined NYU’s Office of Global Programs in 2011 and serves as the Assistant Vice President overseeing global academic planning. She received her PhD from Columbia University in Sociology and Education in 2001. Previously Dr. Alperstein worked as the Dean for Study Abroad at Barnard College and as the Director of Academic Affairs for the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 2000-2011, Dr. Alperstein annually taught a graduate class at Teachers College on gender and inequality and the role of schools. She now teaches that class at NYU’s Steinhardt School. In 2003, she was a Fulbright recipient for the U.S. Administrators International Education program in Germany. She lives in New York City with her son who was adopted from Guatemala.
