Research description/bio: Sofía A. Gómez-Doyle is a first-year doctoral student in the International Education program at NYU Steinhardt. Her research interests include the intersection between global migration and education with a focus on policies to support newcomer students.
Sofia has over a decade of experience working in education at the intersection of human rights, social justice, and equity. Prior to her studies at NYU Steinhardt, she taught third grade as a Bilingual/ESL teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. Past experiences also include interning at the Human Rights Advocacy Centre in Accra, Ghana and the White House during the Obama Administration. She received various awards throughout her undergraduate career, including the Princeton in Africa Fellowship, the NYUAD Associate Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award (2018), NYUAD Campus Life Leadership Award for Collaborative Leadership (2016, 2018), New York University President’s Service Award (2016), and the Dalai Lama Fellowship (2015).
She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from New York University Abu Dhabi. She is a graduate of the United World College of Southern Africa in Eswatini.
