John Sludden

Analyst III

John Sludden is a Research Analyst (III) at the Research Alliance for New York City Schools. He brings nearly a decade of experience as a mixed-methods researcher. John's work at the Research Alliance focuses on understanding the offerings and orientation of career and technical education (CTE) programs in New York City's high schools, examining the relationship between advising and CTE students' college and career plans, and exploring the challenges and successes associated with implementing high-quality STEM apprenticeships and internships for high school students

Prior to joining the Research Alliance, John examined the historical development of CTE policy in New York City and New York State for the Campaign for Educational Equity at Teachers College. Before that, as a policy analyst for Research for Action, John analyzed educational issues ranging from school closings and accountability to school finance policies and postsecondary funding strategies. John is especially grateful for his experience conducting qualitative research in schools, as he believes that students and school staff are experts on educational systems and policies.

John holds an M.A. in Politics and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University.
