Edgar Rivera-Cash is a Research Analyst (II) at the Research Alliance for New York City Schools. He brings several years of experience as a qualitative researcher. Edgar contributes to the Research Alliance’s evaluation of the New York City Department of Education’s Computer Science for All initiative.   

Prior to joining the Research Alliance, Edgar served as a Communications and Resource Development Consultant at the New York City Department of Education, where he coordinated the development of new teacher leader resources, managed two monthly newsletters with an audience of more than 2,000 school leaders, and coordinated the hiring process of teacher leaders for the Teacher Career Pathways program. As a STEM teacher at Vision Education & Media, Edgar taught in K-12 classrooms throughout New York City, focusing on facilitating students' development of coding and algorithmic and computational thinking skills through the use of SCRATCH and Mindstorms NXT. Edgar is interested in understanding the various socio-cultural, institutional, bureaucratic and interpersonal factors that contribute to children and their families experiencing marginalization in schools. 

Edgar holds an M.A. in Sociology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Vassar College.
