Astor Study Abroad Scholarship

Astor Study Abroad Scholarship for NYC Teachers

The Astor Study Abroad Scholarship, made possible by a generous gift from Brooke Astor, supports NYU Steinhardt students who are full-time teachers in the New York City public school system and who are pursuing a Steinhardt study abroad opportunity. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $2500 and are applied in the form of a credit to the student's Bursar bill for the term in which study abroad takes place.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Astor Scholarship, participants must:

  • Currently be matriculated as a student in an NYU Steinhardt graduate degree program
  • Be employed as a full-time teacher in a New York City public or charter school (verification of employment is required at the time of application)
  • Have applied to participate in a short-term, travel-based Steinhardt Global course

Both U.S. citizens and international students are eligible to apply.

Participants are ineligible if they:

  • Are not currently enrolled in an active Steinhardt graduate degree program, or are graduating prior to participating in their study abroad course
  • Are enrolling as a non-credit participant
  • Receive tuition remission from NYU (this includes employees, spouses, and dependents)
  • Received, during the current academic year, a fully funded fellowship or scholarship from NYU (including Steinhardt Fellows, Founders Fellows, and Research Assistants)
  • Are participating in a virtual global course with no travel component
