Research Interests: violence perpetration and critical consciousness development among dominant social groups

Principal Advisor(s): Dr. Erin Godfrey and Dr. Shabnam Javdani

Research Description/Bio: Amira Silver (she/her) is a doctoral student in the Psychology and Social Intervention (PSI) program. Her research draws on structurally, contextually, and historically grounded frameworks to examine violence perpetrated by individuals with power and privilege. She focuses on how seemingly distinct forms of violence are deeply connected and embedded in ecologies of oppression. Amira’s work also explores the development of critical consciousness – how individuals conceptualize and resist systemic inequity – among dominant groups. Amira is a trained Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) facilitator and received a B.A. in Sociology and Spanish from Skidmore College, with minors in Intergroup Relations and Gender Studies.
