Tripta Velamoor is a Clinical Assistant Professor with a role as Doctoral Capstone Coordinator for the EL-OTD program in the Department of Occupational Therapy. Dr. Velamoor is a New York University alumnus. She earned a Master of Arts degree in occupational therapy from NYU in 2002, and a post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from Boston University in 2022. Before joining NYU, Dr. Velamoor worked at Iona university as a Clinical Instructor and an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Dr. Velamoor has over 22 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist working primarily in school settings with preschool- through high school- aged students with disabilities.
Dr. Velamoor's passion lies in exploring occupational therapy’s impact on population health, specifically in chronic disease prevention and health promotion through interventions that address complex and systemic social determinants of health. During her doctoral studies, she developed a guideline for structuring fieldwork experiences in occupational therapy education, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to address population health needs as future practitioners.
Dr. Velamoor is certified through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) as an Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP), and is the Secretary of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association. She also co-founded Ideal Home Innovations Inc., helping clients with diverse needs to live safely and independently in their home environments.
