Teona is currently a senior working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies (with a concentration in Intercultural and International Communication) at CUNY Baruch College (Macaulay Honors College) but has been working at the NYU Metro Center as a Research Intern for NYC's Coalition for Educational Justice (CEJ) & Education Justice Research and Organizing Collaborative (EJ-ROC) since January 2019. While working with CEJ & EJ-ROC, Teona was able to co-author two reports released by CEJ that illuminate the urgent need for culturally responsive curriculum in NYC public schools, aid in organizing rallies at various locations including national monuments like the African Burial Ground, and collaborate in a campaign for Culturally Responsive Education in NYC public schools. As of January 2020, she has transitioned to an Assistant Research Scientist position for CSS and is eager to continue dismantling and disrupting inequity within her sphere of influence, especially through the lens of education.
