Maia Yoshida (she/her) is a doctoral student Department of Teaching and Learning, with a concentration in Urban Education. Her interests include how science learning happens in community-based educational settings like after school and how place-based programs centering meaningful local issues and advocacy can influence science identity, especially for youth of color long marginalized in science learning. She looks forward to expanding her critical lens and scholarship to develop equitable science education practices and curricula with and for young people and educators.
Maia is an educator with experience in youth informal science education. Since 2022, she has worked at BioBus in NYC developing and facilitating inquiry-based and culturally-responsive science programs. She holds a BA in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a MA in STEM Education from King’s College London where she was a 2020-2021 Thouron Scholar.
