Katherine is a doctoral student in Mathematics Education. Her research interests center on student affect as developed in in-school contexts. Katherine's views of mathematics education, particularly as it relates to relevance in out-of-school contexts, have been shaped by her extensive experience in the corporate world. She is currently collecting data for her dissertation, which will focus on mathematical identity shifts of non-math majors enrolled in an undergraduate combinatorics course.
Katherine has worked as an educator in New York City for ten years; she taught mathematics at the high school and community college levels, and was the Assistant Director for the Liberty Partnership Program at St. John's University. As she pursues her doctoral degree, Katherine continues to teach math in a college preparatory program for underserved youth and is an adjunct instructor at Manhattan College. Katherine holds a Master of Arts in Teaching & Learning from NYU Steinhardt, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Kennesaw State University, and a Bachelor in Science in Athletic Administration from St. John's University.
