Danielle M. Perry is a Senior Research Associate at NYU Metro Center’s Policy Research and Evaluation (PRE) team. Her primary area of interest is educational access and opportunity, particularly evaluating the educational aspirations of historically marginalized populations in urban communities and the parenting practices of their primary caregivers. Her research focuses on the educational inequities that exist in low socioeconomic status neighborhoods, specifically examining the social and cultural factors that contribute to the development of resilient behaviors and academic achievement. Aligned with this work, her dissertation utilized an asset-based approach to explore intergenerational parenting practices within Black families that influence children’s preparedness for success in school. Danielle holds a B.A. in Social Work from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a MSW and PhD in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
