Alexis Betancourt, ED.M (sociology and education), provides on-site consultation services and various professional development opportunities to middle and high school educators to address the social and academic challenges of students in the Nest Program. Alexis is a Bronx native and product of the NYC public school system herself.  She taught in a variety of secondary special education settings, including in New York City and Westchester County public schools for over six years. 

During her time as an educator she also spent several years as an Instructional Coach, Program Selector and Training Academy Director with the NYC Teaching Fellows program. Currently as an Instructional Support Specialist with The Nest Support Project, she provides on-site and remote consultation services to support and empower educators to establish inclusive and equitable classrooms that cultivate self-determination, engagement, and belonging.  In addition Alexis, has also provided professional development for Nest schools and other outside organizations including having partnered with NASA, as well as, lectured graduate level courses focusing on social model of disability, understanding autism, inclusive education, strength-based, neurodiversity-affirming and proactive supports.

Alexis holds an E.d.M in Sociology & Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a M.S.E.d in Adolescents with Disabilities from CUNY Hunter College.  Finally, Alexis is passionate about working with her team of schools to promote truly inclusive spaces, while also being aware of intersectional considerations around identity for their students, their families and their communities.
