Media, Culture, and Communication Associate Professor Martin Scherzinger has released a new album of piano etudes under the label New Focus. Pianist Bobby Mitchell plays work that Scherzinger describes as "a topological study of found musical sound." It is Scherzinger's second album with New Focus; his compilation African Math came out in 2015.

Martin Scherzinger's scholarship spans sound, music, media and politics of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, with a particular focus on music of Europe, Africa, and America. His research examines links between political economy and digital sound technologies, poetics of copyright law in diverse sociotechnical environments, relations between aesthetics and censorship, sensory limits of mass-mediated music, mathematical geometries of musical time, histories of sound in philosophy, and the politics of biotechnification.
