A new book by Associate Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication Nicole Starosielski delves into the history of thermal media. With chapter titles like "The Thermal Subjects of Broadcast Temperature" and "Media After the Melt," Media Hot and Cold (Duke University Press, December 2021) considers the connections between temperature, power, and violence.

By foregrounding the atmosphere hosting our communication signals, Starosielski offers a new framework for understanding media hot and cold, media old and new.
