New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position in Media, Culture, and Communication to begin in September 2022. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication. This is a one-year, non-tenure track appointment that is renewable for an additional two years, depending upon department need and satisfactory performance. We are committed to substantially increasing the proportion of our faculty from historically underrepresented groups as we strive to create the most intellectually diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution that we can, and especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply.
Position Description: The Department of Media, Culture, and Communication serves over 1000 undergraduate majors. The ideal candidate is one with competence and teaching experience in media studies, including the history, theory, methods and/or practice of media. We also welcome interest in developing and teaching courses on the critical study of advertising, public relations, marketing, branding, and/or social media.
Responsibilities: Teach three undergraduate courses each semester; facilitate new course design as needed; advise undergraduate honors theses as needed (no more than 2 per year). The successful candidate will be engaged in the intellectual life of the department.
Qualifications: Doctorate or MFA earned by September 2022 and strong record of teaching required.
Applications: Please submit your application online including a cover letter and curriculum vitae. If interviewed, candidates may be asked to prepare a teaching statement, diversity statement, and the names and contact information for three references to upload confidential letters.
Application review will begin immediately. Materials should be submitted no later than March 15, 2022. Additional information about the position can be obtained from Rebecca Brown at rebecca.brown@nyu.edu.
