Research description/bio: Marc (he/him) began his PhD in Sociology of Education at NYU in Fall 2023. Through this degree, he aims to study gender dynamics and norms in schools. Particularly, he would like to study how gender norms are perpetuated in schools and explore ways to challenge them using the same institutions. He developed these research interests based on his experiences as both a student and teacher in Lebanon, where he is from and where he hopes to conduct his research.
Marc earned a BA in Political Science and International Affairs and a Teaching Diploma at the Lebanese American University. After teaching in Lebanon for a while, he received a Fulbright Scholarship that led him to NYU where he completed his MA in Educational Leadership, Politics and Advocacy. In the current step of his academic journey, he hopes to combine his background in politics, pedagogy and advocacy as a strong foundation that will allow him to dive deep into the sociological aspect of education.
On campus, Marc is highly engaged in student life, especially with the international student population, through his work as a graduate assistant at the Steinhardt Office of Student Affairs. He highly encourages other students to seek out opportunities that will help them connect with their peers and build community at NYU.
