Students who apply to the dietetic internship at the James J. Peters/Bronx VA Medical Center (JJPVAMC) and who have not previously matriculated in the MS program in Clinical Nutrition at NYU Steinhardt must apply to the 40-credit MS Nutrition program. Dietetic internship applicants, without a previously obtained MS in Clinical Nutrition, must apply to NYU MS Nutrition program by NYU deadline to be considered.
Students who are matriculated in the MS program at NYU at the time of acceptance to the JJPVAMC Dietetic Internship continue in the 40-credit MS degree. Upon completion of the JJPVAMC dietetic internship, a credit reduction from 40 to 34 credits occurs through MS Program Director and Dietetic Internship Director communication. Once the MS degree is conferred, a Dietetic Internship Verification Statement is issued to the student.
(*Note: Effective January 1, 2024 the eligibility requirement to sit for the credentialing examination for dietitians will be a master's degree; please visit the Commission on Dietetic Registration site for details).

Admissions
Applicants must submit their completed application for JJPVA DI Program via the Dietetic Inclusive Centralized Application Service, DICAS by January 15th, 2025 at 11:59pm (Eastern Time).
A separate application to the MS program is required. The deadline for admission to the NYU MS program is January 15th. The $50 application fee is waived for applicants to the JJPVAMC DI. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement. The Steinhardt Graduate Admissions website has detailed information for students about tuition and living costs, non-matriculated status, and financial aid. Applicants who have non-US undergraduate credentials must present a course-by-course evaluation of their international credentials along with their completed application. A number of agencies can provide this service.
Please note: the JJVPAMC Dietetic Internship Program stipend is only open to US citizens.

JJPVAMC Dietetic Internship Curriculum
The following curriculum is reserved for dietetic interns at the JJPVAMC. It is designed to strengthen the clinical nutrition knowledge and skills of dietetic interns. All interns are required to be enrolled in a minimum of 19 credits throughout their internship year but are strongly recommended to complete 21 credits throughout their internship year.
Notes:
- No graduate-level course may be taken pass/fail unless that is the only grading option.
- Not all courses listed are offered every semester. Classes run only if enrollment is sufficient.
- Courses marked with an asterisk (*) may be taken only after you have completed NUTR-GE 2190 Research Methods. Please see the sequence map for additional information.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to graduate from the program.
