The Dean's Scholar-in-Residence program was launched in 2018 and welcomes distinguished academics, artists, advocates, and other thought-leaders to the NYU Steinhardt community to share their expertise; mentor students and faculty; highlight the School’s academics, research, and community impact; and support efforts to advance equity, belonging, and innovation.

This opportunity is open to the NYU community, and NYU undergraduate and graduate students in the arts, music business, arts management and related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. NYU administrators, faculty, alumni and staff in the arts are also eligible. Apply by Friday, January 2, 2026 to be considered. Applicants will be notified by Monday, January 12, 2026.

In 2021, NYU Steinhardt partnered with the Americana Music Association Foundation to enhance the understanding of and appreciation for the origins, history, and cultural impact of Americana music. As part of the partnership, Steinhardt and the Americana Foundation launched the Artist-in-Residence program. The 2022-2023 Artist-in-Residence was Grammy-winning musician Taj Mahal.
