Through the ongoing experiences of transformation and change that we currently undergo, we intend to look not only towards the future, but also back at the personal histories that guide our understanding of the world. We look back into our pasts, our legacies, our unique stories. In this show, artists are exploring the concept of archive as preservation of memory, and the process of coming into adulthood as it is documented through archival mediums. We consider the identities, relationships, and narratives that inform the current moment. Not only are we considering our identities as individuals, but also our identities as generational beings in the cycles of life, growth, and change. With themes of physicality, intimacy, and familial relationships, artists explore the impacts of their cultural backgrounds, childhood experiences, womanhood, and motherhood on their practices and lives as a whole.
*Barney Building exhibitions are on view to members of the NYU community and sponsored visitors. Only Opening Receptions are open to the general public.
