An Evening of Jazz Featuring Faculty, Students, Alumni & Guest Mike Mainieri

The NYU Jazz group Combo Nuvo has traveled the globe, performing at New York city clubs and bistros as well as the national symphonies of Mongolia, Abu Dhabi, Italy, Costa Rica and Peru. Created and directed by Dave Schroeder and Rich Shemaria, their group has included such jazz icons as Lenny Pickett, Tom Scott, Lenny White, Paul McCandless, and Blue Lou Marini. This performance will include a 10-piece string orchestra, featuring Mike Mainieri on vibraphone. 

Now 88, Mainieri’s teenage career began by performing alongside Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, Buddy Rich, Tim Harden, and Jeremy Steig, eventually forming the fusion group Steps Ahead with Michael Brecker, Don Grolnick, Eddie Gomez, and Steve Gadd.
