BFA Visiting Artist Lecture: Cate Giordano

Mon Apr 13
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm ET
Einstein Auditorium
34 Stuyvesant Street, New York, NY 10003

Cate Giordano shoots films, creates objects, and performs in various states of cross-dress. Giordano's work often takes the form of videos and large-scale installations that combine actors with sculptural environments made from materials such as foam, wood, plaster, and sewn fabric. Giordano regularly performs multiple characters of different genders within each piece, creating self-contained worlds that explore power dynamics within history, politics, and popular culture. Solo exhibitions include Participant Inc, Galerie Christophe Gaillard, Postmasters Gallery, Microscope Gallery with screenings at International Film Festival Rotterdam, Anthology Film Archives, Spectacle Theater, Millennium Film Archives and others. Residencies include La Résidence Le Tremblay, Onassis AiR, and Smack Mellon.

Cate Giordano will discuss several films, plays, and installations made over the past 10 years.

Visiting Artist Lectures

Each spring, our BFA students invite contemporary visual artists to visit NYU and give lectures about their work. The content of the Visiting Artist Lectures ranges from in-depth explorations of a specific body of their work to a general overview of their practice and experience with galleries and the art world.
