Marilyn Nonken is a distinguished pianist, Steinway Artist, and academic leader, celebrated by the New York Times as "a determined protector of important music" and by the American Record Guide as "one of the greatest interpreters of new music" for her virtuosic, insightful performances. Since joining NYU Steinhardt in 2006, she has directed Piano Studies and currently serves as Chair of the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, while maintaining an active performance schedule in major venues globally, including Carnegie Hall and IRCAM, and contributing a wide-ranging discography of over 30 recordings. Her scholarly work is equally significant, notably her monograph The Spectral Piano (Cambridge University Press), along with numerous books, chapters, and articles focusing on new music and piano performance.
