CSD Distinguished Alumni Award

The recipient of the 2026 CSD Distinguished Alumni Award is Dr. Betty Yu. Dr. Yu is being recognized for her impactful contributions to research, education, and advocacy in the field of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. A Professor at San Francisco State University, her work has advanced understanding of communication access and the experiences of racialized bilingual and multilingual children with disabilities, with a focus on linguistic disability justice and the effects of raciolinguistic discrimination and ableism. She has published extensively on bilingualism, neurodiversity, and accent modification, and continues to shape critical conversations in the field through her scholarship and leadership, including her role as co-managing editor of the Journal of Critical Study of Communication and Disability. Through her work, Dr. Yu represents a commitment to equity, inclusion, and innovation in both research and clinical practice.
