Study media and urban space while immersed in the heart of global media production. The MSc/MA in Media, Culture and Global Cities is designed for media studies students who want to critically engage with how media shapes and is shaped by two global media capitals: London and New York. You’ll spend your first year at LSE in London and your second year at NYU Steinhardt in New York, earning two master’s degrees from two world-renowned institutions and building a truly international network.

Year 1 at LSE

The first year of the program is based in the Department of Media and Communications at LSE in London. You’ll complete three mandatory core courses, a mandatory dissertation, and additional elective courses. The total number of units taken at LSE will be four.

LSE Core Courses 

MC408 Theories and Concepts in Media and Communications (.5 units)
MC420 Identity, Transnationalism and the Media (.5 units)
MC4M1/MC4M7 Methods of Research (.5 units)

LSE Elective Courses

Student will be able to select from a list of elective courses worth a total of 1.5 units, provided availability and any pre-requisite criteria is met.

Year 2 at NYU

Year 2 of the Program is based in NYU’s Department of Media, Culture and Communication. You’ll complete all requirements of the Master of Arts in Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU.  

Upon successful completion of year 1 at LSE, you’ll be eligible to transfer the equivalent of 12 credits to NYU.

At NYU, you’ll enroll in the Culminating Seminar (Professional Writing or Media Projects), MCC Area of Study courses, and up to 8 credits of elective courses. The total credits required for the NYU Master of Arts in Media, Culture, and Communication degree is 36 credits, which includes 12 credits transferred from LSE.
