MA, Teaching Social Studies and Students with Disabilities, Initial Certification

To best meet the needs of our students, we have decided to suspend applications for admission to the MA in Teaching Social Studies and Students with Disabilities, Initial Certification. We encourage you to explore related programs including the MAT in Teaching Social Studies: Transformational Teaching, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification, the MAT in Teaching Students with Disabilities: Transformational Teaching, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification, and the NYU Teacher Residency.

This dual-certification master of arts program prepares you to teach Social Studies and Special Education for grades 7–12. Learn pedagogical theories and methods that address the needs of students with disabilities and other learning challenges and build a strong foundation in social studies, history, and education. This program leads to eligibility for New York State initial teaching certification. You may also choose to pursue an additional extension to teach social studies in grades 5 and 6.
