To best meet the needs of our students, we have decided to suspend applications for admission to the MA in Educational Theatre, All Grades, and Teaching Social Studies, Grades 7–12: Dual Certification. We encourage you to explore related programs including the MA in Educational Theatre, All Grades: Initial Certification, MA in Teaching in Transformational Teaching in Middle and High School, Social Studies Concentration, and the NYU Teacher Residency.
This dual-certification master of arts program leads to eligibility for New York State initial certification as a teacher of theatre, all grades (K–12), and a teacher of social studies, grades 7–12. You will develop interactive strategies in teaching and learning for exploring historical concepts, periods, debates, and texts through drama-based frameworks. During your course of study, you will complete fieldwork and student teaching placements in New York City schools at both the elementary and secondary levels.
A non-certification degree, initial teaching certification degree, and a degree offering dual certification with English Education are available.
