30 credits, 2 semesters full-time

This program is open to participants who have a bachelor’s degree and who hold certification or are eligible for certification in early childhood education. This program takes 1 year (2 semesters) to complete for full-time students. The time to degree completion for part-time students is determined on a case-by-case basis in consultation with an advisor. See the following for the full sequence of courses for full-time study.

Fall (15 Credits)

  • SPCED-GE 2124 (3 credits): Historical and Contemporary Issues in Special Education
  • SPCED-GE 2052 (3 credits): Methods of Instruction for Children with Low Incidence Disabilities (can be taken in the summer)
  • SPCED-GE 2127 (3 credits): Diversity and Equality for Students with Disabilities in Families, Schools, and Communities
  • SPCED-GE 2160 (2161 if 2160 is not offered; 3 credits): Methods of Instruction for Children with High Incidence Disabilities
  • Elective (3 credits)
  • TCHL-GE 2999 (0 credits): Drug and Alcohol Education/Child Abuse Identification and School Violence Prevention (can be waived if New York State requirement has already been satisfied)

Spring (15 Credits)

  • SPCED-GE 2133 (3 credits): Assessment and Instructional Design for Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities
  • SPCED-GE 2108 (3 credits): Learning Environments, Behavior, and Students with Disabilities
  • SPCED-GE 2902 (3 credits): Student Teaching Special Education: Early Childhood I
  • 2 electives (3 credits each)
