Techniques of music listening developed through musical sight-singing, dictation, and aural analysis. Students learn techniques for critically listening to, analyzing, and notating four-part diatonic harmony and basic chromatic harmony including secondary functions and modulation, advanced rhythm and meter, chromatic melodies, and instrumentation.

This course will provide musicians with an opportunity to physically embody music through the form of Baroque dance. Basic Baroque dance steps, phrases and ornamentations, will be learned and examined through the historic relationship between the two art forms of music and dance. An exploration of the Beauchamp-Feuillet notation system will then be applied to their own reconstructions and their performances throughout the semester.

This introductory course prepares students to use statistics for data analysis. The course makes use of statistical computer software to achieve hands-on experience with data. This course covers methods for displaying and describing data as well as statistical inference. Topics include frequency distributions and their graphical representations, percentiles, measures of central tendency and dispersion, hypothesis tests, analysis of variance, correlation, and simple regression.

Review of the essential mathematics for statistics. Collection and tabulation of data; the properties of frequency distributions; histograms; boxplots; measures of central tendency, dispersion and correlation; tests of hypothesis using the normal curve, the T distribution, the F distribution. Liberal Arts Core/CORE Equivalent - satisfies the requirement for Quantitative Reasoning.

The second semester builds on the foundation of the first and covers particular methods of statistical inference that rely on the normal t, F, and chi-square distributions to test hypotheses about means, variances, correlations, and proportions.
