What was the best class you took as an AP student?

I really enjoyed grief and bereavement and art therapy. For required courses, cross-cultural counseling was very relevant and group dynamics was interesting.

What was the most influential part of your experience in your program?

The counseling labs were really helpful since I could practice what we learned in our other classes and received valuable feedback. Otherwise, I interned with student activities at NYU Liberal Studies and participated in a 1 credit internship course. That experience helped guide me on my current career path, as an academic advisor.

Do you have any thoughts you’d like to share with prospective students?

The undergraduate and graduate programs you choose may not always directly reflect the career path you end up taking, but there are still valuable skills you will learn along the way. Although I quickly discovered that school counseling was not for me, I was able to apply the counseling skills I learned to my position as an academic advisor.

What was your first job after you graduated?

Academic Advisor at NYU Tandon SOE

What is your current job?

Academic Advisor at NYU Tandon

Do you have any advice for people interested in a similar career path?

Throughout the two years in the program, I juggled internships in higher education and school counseling. This allowed me to network with others at the university and easily transition to a job in my preferred career path.
