Research Description/Bio:
Andy Chae (he/his/him) is a fourth-year part-time Ph.D. student in NYU Steinhardt’s Sociology of Education program. His research focuses on the impact of leadership on campus communities at U.S. institutions of higher education, diversity in U.S. higher education leadership, as well as the experiences of Asian American faculty, administrators and students in academia. Prior to his doctoral studies, Andy received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Boston University.
In addition to his educational pursuits, Andy is also an immensely passionate student affairs administrator and has experience working in academic advising, admissions, financial aid, student leadership, student activities and residence life at NYU, BU and the EF Education First International Language Programs. Currently, he is the Associate Director of Graduate Student Life at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. In this role, he helps oversee student affairs-related activities for the entire graduate college of engineering at Columbia.
Outside of academia, Andy drinks copious amounts of coffee, avidly follows tennis (he’s a die-hard Roger Federer fan), enjoys listening to an eclectic genre of music that ranges from 90s pop to Beethoven and can often be found eating to his heart’s content at the plethora of restaurants in NYC.
