Pianist and conductor Gordon Schermer has performed on three continents with some of the world’s finest musicians. He has been a vocal coach at Manhattan School of Music since 2008 and joined the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at NYU in the fall of 2021. He has also held positions at the Bard College Conservatory of Music and Montclair State University.

Most recently, Mr. Schermer made his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall with the National Children’s Chorus and toured Portugal and Spain with that ensemble in the summer of 2022. While on tour, Gordon had the opportunity to perform at La Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona and the Auditorio Nacionál de Musica in Madrid. Other venues where he has performed include Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Times Center, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Steinway Hall, and Salle Bourgie in Montréal.

Mr. Schermer has worked on the music staffs of The Santa Fe Opera, LA Opera, Seattle Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Tulsa Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, and Detroit Opera. Additionally, he has worked for the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has appeared in master classes given by Renée Fleming, Marilyn Horne, Sherrill Milnes, Mignon Dunn, Thomas Hampson, Ben Heppner, Martina Arroyo, Carol Vaness, Catherine Malfitano, Lauren Flanigan, and Nathan Gunn.

A native of Pittsburgh, Mr. Schermer is the recipient of a fellowship to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master’s Degree in Collaborative Piano from Manhattan School of Music. His teachers have included Ian Hobson, Kenneth Merrill and John Wustman.
