Marty A. Cooper, PhD, LMHC, NCC

 

Dr. Cooper is an adjunct faculty member of NYU Steinhardt and an Associate Professor at State University of New York (SUNY) College at Old Westbury in the graduate Mental Health Counseling program. He is a counseling psychologist and a licensed mental health counselor with international experience. His research focuses on sexual orientation, gender identity, ageism, and Native American populations. Recent works include a new identity development model for transgender and gender non-conforming individual published in the journal Studies in Gender and Sexuality and a presentation on intergenerational trauma of indigenous individuals presented at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. He is the editor of the journal GROUP. Dr. Cooper is the clinical director at Cooper Mental Health Counseling, PLLC. Among numerous volunteer activities, Dr. Cooper conducts asylum assessments for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking asylum in the US. He also engages in leadership activities in Division 17 of American Psychological Association and Easter Group Psychotherapy Society.
