Tinia R. Merriweather, Ph.D. is an applied developmental psychologist and social justice educator. Her focus is at the nexus of psychology and education - connected to the intersection of race, gender, and other identities and their dynamic interplay in the classroom and other institutional contexts. Tinia has been teaching graduate students in the Department of Applied Psychology at NYU Steinhardt since Spring 2020. She also teaches full-time in the Ethics Department at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. With 30 years of classroom experience, she has taught at all levels from elementary through graduate school. She has also held a variety of leadership positions over her career. Tinia holds a B.A. from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and two M.A. degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University and Fordham University, and a Ph.D. from Fordham University. Tinia aims for scholar-activism in achieving equity and justice in institutions and society. Her goal is to lead with love and toward liberation, with a focus on Black joy.
