Whether on her own highly-acclaimed albums, a 26-year member of the beloved vocal group New York Voices, or as co-founder of two diverse and inventive supergroups, Moss and JaLaLa, singer/songwriter Lauren Kinhan has always forged her own path as a performer, composer, improviser, and educator. Her decided journey with New York Voices has run at the forefront of her career, since 1992, recording a full color catalogue of CDs, logging millions of miles all over the world, singing on two Grammy Award-winning CDs with the Count Basie Orchestra and Paquito D’Rivera, and creating two successful summer camps at the University of Western Michigan and the Bayerische Musikakademie in Germany. Her 2018 solo release, A Sleepin’ Bee, earned four and a half stars in Downbeat Magazine and rave reviews all around for her loving tribute to jazz singer Nancy Wilson. With three other solo albums of her original songs to her credit, legendary producer Phil Ramone signed and produced her debut outing calling her “a true songstress.”
Touring with Ornette Coleman and recording with Bobby McFerrin along the way delivers a 360 degree view of her creative world. A new monthly residency curating a vocal night with Grammy Award-winning singer and arranger Janis Siegel from The Manhattan Transfer is taking Greenwich Village by storm. Vocal Mania celebrates the gorgeous singer community in NYC, featuring special guests of prominence along side local stars and young up and coming talent. On deck is a new release by New York Voices in September 2019 and a live recording and collaboration with Brazilian sensation Ivan Lins and the Danish Radio Big Band.
Lauren is part of the jazz voice adjunct faculty at NYU and is an in-demand vocal coach, clinician and conductor. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, you can learn more about her on her website.
