Jaime Kahhat joined the faculty of the Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development in 2022. He received a B.A. in Economics in 1992 from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, a M.A. in Political Economy in 1997 from Boston University, and a Ph.D. in Economics in 2000 from Boston University. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Kahhat worked as an Assistant Professor in the School of Business at The College of Westchester from 2008 to 2021, as an External Consultant for the United Nations Development Programme project “Markets, the State and the Dynamics of Inequality: How to Advance Inclusive Growth” from 2007 to 2008, and as an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at Universidad de Alicante in Spain from 2000 to 2005. Dr. Kahhat’s research interests revolve around the relationship between inequality and economic growth, and the role of institutions in the process of economic development.
