Caitlin R. Ferrer is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Applied Psychology department at NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University and an M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College, and she is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State.

Dr. Ferrer's research and clinical interests center on cultural humility, racial and ethnic identity development, and evidence-based practice with adults experiencing trauma, eating disorders, and anxiety. Her dissertation employed grounded theory methodology to examine racial identity development in multiracial Latine adults, and her publications include a mixed-methods psychobiographical case study appearing in The Qualitative Report; she has presented her research at national conferences, including the Association for Psychological Science's annual convention. In her teaching, she has delivered graduate coursework across APA- and MPCAC-accredited counseling programs, spanning counseling theory and practice, group counseling, family counseling, psychopathology, assessment, and fieldwork. Alongside her academic work, Dr. Ferrer owns and directs a group psychotherapy practice she founded in 2020, where she provides individual psychotherapy and clinical supervision to mental health counselors.

Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Ferrer served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology program at Fordham University and previously held an adjunct instructor appointment in the Mental Health Counseling and Wellness program at NYU Steinhardt. She completed her predoctoral clinical internship at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care/New Jersey Medical School and trained as a clinical extern at the NYU Center for Counseling and Community Wellbeing. She has held clinical and supervisory positions across a range of community mental health and psychiatric rehabilitation settings, including Harlem Bay Personalized Recovery Oriented Services and Mount Sinai's Continuing Day Treatment Program.
