Where were you born/where did you grow up?

I was born in Yumbo, Colombia, and grew up in the “Colombian District” of New Jersey, Elizabeth.

Where did you attend undergrad/grad school?

I earned a bachelor’s in anthropology from Haverford College and my MA at NYU's Experimental Humanities department. My research focused on the emotional and historical impact of social media censorship/erasure.

What's your go-to snack?

Kettle popped jalapeno potato chips and a ginger ale.

What's your favorite book?

Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo

What's your favorite movie?

Iron Man 1, makes me nostalgic for some weird reason.

What's your favorite music?

Vallenato/Cumbia, mostly Carlos Vives, though Karol G and Feid also make an appearance in my playlists.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to read, crochet, play videos, or spend time with my nephew and my family dog (who is actually a criminal service facility dog!)

Coolest thing you've done/seen in NYC?

Going to watch my brother and his salsa band perform at the Hard Rock Cafe, and getting a free slice of cheesecake.

Favorite spot in NYC?

Strand Book Store is overwhelming most of the time, but if you get lucky and it’s not packed, it’s great.

One piece of advice you'd give to graduate students:

Talk to people! So many of your classmates, professors, advisors, etc., would be happy to help you out, now or in the future, but you have to form those connections and reach out. You’ll also learn about so many fun events and professional opportunities going on that you might not have known of otherwise.
