MA, Teaching English and Teaching Students with Disabilities, Grades 7-12, Initial Certification

To best meet the needs of our students, we have decided to suspend applications for admission to the MA in Teaching English and Teaching Students with Disabilities, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification. We encourage you to explore related programs including the BS/MA in Educational Theatre, All Grades and English 7-12: Dual Certification, the MAT in Teaching English: Transformational Teaching, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification, the MAT in Teaching Students with Disabilities: Transformational Teaching, Grades 7–12, Initial Certification, and the NYU Teacher Residency.

This dual-certification master of arts program prepares you to teach English and special education for grades 7–12. Learn pedagogical theories and methods that address the needs of students with disabilities and other learning challenges and build a strong foundation in English, literacy, and the language arts. This program leads to eligibility for New York State initial teaching certification. You may also choose to pursue an additional extension to to teach English in grades 5 and 6.

A non-certification degree, teacher residency program, and degrees offering professional teaching certification, initial teaching certification in English Education, and dual certification with Educational Theatre are also available.
