Media Activism and Social Movements

This course examines media activism as a set of practices through which individuals, communities, organizations, and movements use media to contest power and pursue social, political, and cultural change. Students explore how activists intervene in representation, labor, policy, public discourse, and media production across local, national, and global contexts. The course considers both established and emerging media forms, with attention to the strategies, institutions, and conditions that shape activist media work.
