Kate Amrine

Dr. Kate Amrine is a New York City–based trumpet player, educator, and recording artist whose multifaceted career spans Broadway, musical theater, chamber music, orchestral performance, new music, and education. She has performed with ensembles including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Broadway Sinfonietta, Little Orchestra Society, Wordless Music Orchestra, Experiential Orchestra, Contemporaneous, Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, and her chamber groups eGALitarian Brass and Spark Duo.

A passionate advocate for new music, Kate has premiered more than 30 works as a soloist and chamber musician. She is a founding member of eGALitarian Brass, which champions diverse composers and innovative concert experiences. Dr. Amrine has performed solo recitals around the world including at the International Women's Brass Conference in Japan, universities in Thailand, and schools in Australia and Singapore. Her two albums, As I Am (2017) and This Is My Letter to the World (2020), feature contemporary works exploring themes including identity, feminism, social justice, climate change, and immigration.

Kate is also an active musical theater musician, having performed on Broadway and in numerous national and international productions. Highlights include traveling around the world to play trumpet in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, lead trumpet for Annie at Madison Square Garden, the Annie national tour, Chicago in South Korea, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live with Broadway Sinfonietta. She has also performed in productions including Wicked and Chicago on Broadway, as well as holding the chair in off Broadway shows including Alice by Heart, The Jerusalem Syndrome, Sugar, and more. As a recording artist, she has appeared on cast albums and recordings featuring artists and organizations including Norah Jones, Evanescence, Lenny Pickett, Sleigh Bells, Mariachi Flor de Toloache, and The Civilians.

Dr. Amrine has served as Adjunct Instructor at New York University since 2013, teaching trumpet, coaching chamber music, and presenting masterclasses on performance, entrepreneurship, and career development. She has presented her Designing Your Career in Music masterclass at universities and conferences throughout the U.S. and internationally, including the International Trumpet Guild conference. Most recently she has begun presenting on various Music and the Brain topics to various lecture series in NYC. 

Kate holds a DMA from Stony Brook University, a Master’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory, and a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance and Psychology from New York University. Her principal teachers have included Laurie Frink, Thomas Hoyt, Phil Snedecor, Joe Burgstaller, Raymond Mase, and Kevin Cobb.
