Steinway Young Artist Chenzhou Wang began studying piano at the age of five. At thirteen, he was admitted with distinction to the Middle School Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he received the Niu Ende Scholarship and the Shanghai Municipal Scholarship for three consecutive years. At sixteen, he entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music–Royal College of Music Joint Institute on a full scholarship. In 2022, he was awarded a substantial scholarship to attend the New England Conservatory, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Piano Performance at New York University Steinhardt on scholarship.
Wang has studied with Ya Liang, Xinyi Ruan, Ting Zhou, Luo Xiao, Pavel Nersessian, and currently with Eduardus Halim and Zhe Tang.
A prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, Wang received First Prize and the Special Prize at the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition, First Prize at the Pearl River–Kayserburg International Youth Piano Competition, First Prize at the Lang Lang–Shenzhen Futian National Youth Piano Competition, Second Prize at the North Coast International Piano Competition in the United States, the Gold Award at the China Little Golden Bell Music Competition, Second Prize and the Most Promising Artist Award at the American Classical Pianists International Competition, and Second Prize in the Ensemble Division of the Osaka International Music Competition.
He has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists including Alexander Kobrin, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Barry Snyder, Douglas Humpherys, Kathryn Brown, Lang Lang, and Zhaoyi Dan. As a soloist, Wang has collaborated with conductors Daye Lin, Ming Liu, Yukuang Jin, and Ronen Nissan, and has performed piano concertos with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra.
Wang has appeared in many of the world’s leading concert venues, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Jordan Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Carnegie Hall, the Mariinsky Theatre, Shenzhen Concert Hall, and He Luting Concert Hall. His performances have taken him to cities across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Beyond his solo career, Wang was a member of the NEC Symphonic Choir and participated in Deutsche Grammophon’s 2023 recording of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 with conductor Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
