Javier is a Licensed Creative Art Therapist (LCAT)and Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). He holds a dual degree in Music and Philosophy with a Classical Guitar certification from Florida State University, a master's in music therapy from New York University, and a post-master's level I certification in Nordoff-Robbins music therapy. For more than a decade he has provided music psychotherapy services for populations with developmental, rehabilitation, inpatient, end-of-life, and bereavement needs.
Currently, Javier provides music therapy services to the hospitalized adult population at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center and supervises music therapy interns. He also teaches Clinical Guitar Foundations and Introduction to Music Therapy at New York University as adjunct.
Javier follows a humanistic, evidenced-based, music-centered, and patient-centered philosophy. This means that he sees music as a deeply human activity -not just an object- that is at the core of people’s biological, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions.
