Music and Performing Arts Professions

Bahamian composer Stefan Thompson is known for his innovative fusion of European and African musical traditions. He honed his craft under the mentorship of Drs. Eun Young Lee and Jonathan Bailey Holland at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, completing his Master's degree in 2021.

In recognition of his exceptional artistic contributions, Thompson was honored with the Harry C. Moore Memorial Scholarship In The Arts by the Lyford Cay Foundation in 2019. That same year, he received grants from both the Charitable Arts Foundation and the Nassau Music Society.

Thompson's compositions have been showcased in esteemed venues. Notably, his orchestral piece NDE: Impressions of a Near Death Experience premiered at Boston's Symphony Hall in 2022, performed by the Boston Conservatory Orchestra. Looking ahead, his work titled Forward, Upward, Onward, Together—a unique symphonic piece that fuses European and African influences into a distinctly Bahamian musical style—will have its world premiere with the Vista Philharmonic Orchestra in March 2025, under the direction of Maestro Bruce Hangen.

Beyond orchestral works, Thompson has made significant strides in film scoring, including composing the original score for the 2024 feature film Look Up, Child, directed by Bahamian filmmaker Leonardo Newman.

Committed to furthering his expertise, Thompson embarked on PhD studies in Screen Scoring at New York University in 2022, where he actively collaborates with artists across various disciplines.
