Derek Fawcett has shared stages with Peter Frampton, Ben Folds, America, Lifehouse, Pat Benatar, Colin Hay, Gin Blossoms, Blues Traveler, and backed up Chance The Rapper at Lollapalooza. The Chicago Tribune calls Derek’s music "...austere singer-songwriter stuff of surpassing grace." and recent songwriting collaborations have netted millions streams across a range of genres. Of his performance in Trey Anastasio’s Hands On A Hardbody, Chris Jones wrote: "...Derek Fawcett...give(s) the show its zest and its emotional core."
He advocates for the rights of music creators through his work with MusicAnswers and his Come Together newsletter. The results of MusicAnswers' survey of college student music creators' were reported by Digital Music News, and Derek presented the findings at the Association for Popular Music Education (APME) conference. He has also presented at Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference and been recognized for Excellence in Teaching.
Derek's NYU teaching responsibilities include Rights, Revenue and Relationships and Introduction To Songwriting for the Songwriting program and Artist Rising and private voice lessons for the Vocal Performance program. He holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University and a Master’s of Songwriting from NYU.
